Indian, or black-throated tit (Machlolophus aplonotus) - a large bird up to 13 cm long with a wide black stripe (especially wide in males) on a yellow background, extending from the throat to the chest and belly. There are also black stripes on the sides of the head, passing from the frenulum through the eyes and connecting with each other behind the ear; from the crown to the shoulders, there is also a black stripe. The large crest is black in front and yellow in the back. On a black face, yellow eyebrows and cheeks stand out. The back and upper tail are olive green. On the shoulder and wing coverts, black spots are scattered over the main olive tone. The wings are colored in a combination of black and light; two white or yellowish stripes on the secondary flight feathers are characteristic. The tail feathers are mostly black with white tips, the outer ones are pure white. Females and juveniles are duller in color than males. In addition, the plumage of the lower part of the body becomes less and less bright in individuals as they move from north to south of the range.
Distribution and nutrition
Indian tits - sedentary birds, common in the Himalayas, where they inhabit tropical forests. During the search for food, these are active and agile birds. They feed on forest insects and spiders, sometimes fruits.
Reproduction
For nesting, Indian tits use hollows hollowed out by woodpeckers or beards, dig a hole themselves, or choose man-built dwellings. In clutch there are usually 3-5 white eggs with red specks. On the nest, the bird sits tightly, being disturbed - hisses.
Features of the view
Earlier indian tits belonged to the family Parus, but molecular genetics data obtained in 2013 showed that they have a number of differences, and they have now been transferred to the genus Machlolophus.
